Bloke Rock is Back

Maybe Guardian journalist, Hannah Pool, has been listening to the newly launched XFM Scotland or reading the NME. Or perhaps looking at the colossal first week sales of the Arctic Monkeys' album. The former recently produced The X-List – 1000 'essential' tracks to celebrate their launch. The only woman featured in the top 100 was Bjork. Nina Persson made it into the top 200, and by that point I had stopped looking for a black person – god forbid actually listening to the countdown. No doubt, the bassist in Elbow would have turned up eventually. Likewise, the NME have just run another one of these great space fillers, a list of their top 100 British albums of all time. Again, dominated by white males, only PJ Harvey makes the top 30.

Regardless, Pool makes the point much more eloquently
